When I first started my vocal training, I went to the schools, took the voice classes and sang in the choirs. But it wasn’t until I started my private lessons did I start seeing the results I was really looking for.

One of the most effective ways to train your singing voice is through private lessons. A good vocal coach can teach you how to strengthen and control your voice in a safe and effectual manner. Although voice classes and choral singing are essential tools for vocal training and development, you don’t get the personalized one-on-one training like you do with private lessons, which is so greatly needed for ultimate results for singing.

Each individual has their own issues around singing--from bad singing habits; to great singing skills but lack of confidence or motivation; to fear of public performance. Good private instructions can be the greatest solution to those issues.


 Vocal Mentoring vs. Vocal Coaching

What exactly is Vocal mentoring and what makes it different from vocal coaching?


First, let's begin with Vocal Coaching:


Vocal coaching is a practice in teaching someone  to sing and perform. It is a training experience an aspiring or professional singer receives to improve their singing technique and develop their voice for performance.

Vocal mentoring, according to David Glover, is a practice in mentoring others through a combined experience of singing technique and performance prep with vocal & personal development strategy employed.

The personal development strategy implemented, sets vocal mentoring in a class that is nearly esoteric in the world of vocal coaching and teaching. This form of training is personalized in a way to help a student ‘get real’ about singing. How do you ‘get real?

You set your life up in a way that you can fit in practice and focus time. Personal development strategy help you find the time to practice and focus on a consistent basis, not whenever you can fit it in.


The Vocal Mentoring Program (TVMP) is a one stop entity program for aspiring singers. It utilizes a five level intensive training ground that includes: vocal training, musicianship, music business, performance, and recording.

Any aspiring singer or novelist singer can go out and find a good vocal coach. That coach may be the best coach in the world, but he or she can only help you if you do the homework. I’ve seen students who have spent tons of money trying to get the best training and end up improving but not to the capacity they could if they had someone to mentor them along through the process. A vocal coach is not required to take that initiative. A student spend an hour or so with the coach and they’re on their own in finding the time to do the rest. In TVMP they (the students) also leave on their own, but with a planner. And if they follow the planner diligently they will be prepared and ready by next session to move on to the next level.

This is how it works. The student is required to write out their weekly planner(schedule) of all activities going on in their personal lives (e.g. school, job, family agenda). But each student is required to put in, what I call the to 10 minute practice time, every single day, 6 days-a-week, 5 minimum. This is a schedule for the super busy folks. Everybody, I’m sure, can five 5 or 10 minutes-a-day to focus on practice. I’ve found, and studies also show, that a person learns more effectively if they practice a certain thing everyday for a short period of time, than they would taking one or two days per week practicing it for an hour or more. So 5-10 minutes everyday is better than one hour per week.

The student will need to buy or borrow a voice recorder (or cassette) device. They will use the those 5-10 minutes to listen to previous session(s), daily vocalizing and whatever else the instructor has assigned from previous session. With only 5 minutes to work, student may only have time to vocalize. If student can put in 10 minutes or more, then they may have time to listen to a portion of the session.

There are five steps in this mentoring program that will help the student move forward fast and effective. You are encouraged to utilized these five steps to make your Vocal Mentoring experienced the optimum experience in singing.


Five Step Vocal Mentoring

  1. Write your weekly planner
  2. Memorize the words to 2-3 new songs every week
  3. Practice by listening to lesson daily
  4. Vocalize daily and record your voice
  5. Bring material to class

To enroll in The Vocal Mentoring Program
First and foremost, you must have an innate desire to sing. Secondly, if you are a minor attending public or private school k-12, you must maintain a consistent grade point average minimum of c+ or above. Students receiving a c+ average are putting themselves in jeopardy of being asked to leave the program.

Requirements to become a singer through TVMP
The only requirements to become a singer through this program is that you have the burning desire to sing, and that you are committed to doing the work.
